So I got back into playing Animal Crossing recently.
To upgrade the town's shop to the final stage ("Nookington's"), you're required to spend 240,000 bells (currency) in the store AND have another player connect to your town wirelessly and come to buy something from the store.
There are two ways to accomplish this: either you have a friend basically in the same room as you who also has a DS with Animal Crossing Wild World and is coordinating the meet-up with you… or you get a "Friend Code" from an NPC in-game, which you can share with anyone on an online forum or whatever and they can plug it into their game and you can access their town regardless of their geographical location in relation to you.
… Except in November of 2014, Nintendo permanently discontinued their online wifi network.
So the only way to expand your town's store to it's final upgrade is to hope you fuckin have a friend who has the same game and is willing to humor you.
